ABOUT
‘with Fox’s production the cohesion is in the ‘playing’; the flow of the antagonism, and desires of the characters, the artfully achieved march of time both personal and political. It strikes a rich resonant chord’ Arts Hub, Gillian Clark
The Company:
Hydra Poesis is a company that seeks to employ multiple and hybrid (hydra) performance forms, towards the poetic realisation of new critical thoughts and cultural actions (poesis). Built around artform hybridity, collaboration and critical research, Hydra Poesis has invested heavily in a unique practice. Contemporary performance and live art works have been characterised by innovative fusions of media, space and the body, challenging and provocative text and audience immersion/interaction. Hydra Poesis is based at CIA studios, West Perth, Western Australia.
Our recent projects:
Over the last twelve months Hydra has produced a live art work ‘Trademark Manoeuvres’ and a short dance-film commissioned by NEXT WAVE and Reeldance for Private Dances ‘Liberty In The Dark’. The company has undertaken a major research and creative development of the multi-locational theatre project ‘Prompter Live Studio’ supported by the WA Theatre Development Initiative and mentored intensively by Pacitti Company (London). Intense writing on this project is Hydra’s current obsession.
And most recently in July 2010 the company presented new full-length dance work ‘Personal Political Physical Challenge’ at PICA with support from the Dance Board and DCA. Personal Political Physical Challenge received a string of glowing reviews, big houses over its season and excited audience and peer responses.
Hydra Poesis collaborators are numerous. Sam Fox (director), Francesca Hope (producer) and Ainsley Canning (construction, design and production) are the glue between projects and key collaborators of the moment are Patrick Pittman, Thea Costantino, Dave Miller, Stina Thomas, Rachel Ogle and Martin Hansen, Deborah Robertson, Michelle Robin Anderson and Brendan Ewing.
